Sheffield Young Archaeologists Club

Sheffield branch of the Young Archaeologists Club

Sheffield has its own branch of the Young Archaeologists Club, a national club for children aged between 9 and 16. The branch meets regularly and takes part in many activities. Members of the club were involved in the development of this web-site by taking part in a testing session at the museum in September 2002.

In the summer of 2003, members of the club took part in the Big Dig organised by Channel 4's Time Team. Their excavations of a Second World War Anderson shelter in Walkley, Sheffield was one of the projects featured on the television coverage of this national event.

The current programme of activities includes visits to the community archaeology excavations at Mellor and the new Leeds City Museum. Practical sessions include experimental archaeology, geophysics and pottery making.
